In riding a horse,
we borrow freedom
Castello del Calcione has always been home to many horses. We believe the best way to discover Tuscany is by horseback. So, we offer a range of horse-riding activities – from our three-day ride through the Senese rolling hills to shorter treks on the estate. We invite experienced riders to come along for a hack through the wilderness.
Our excursions are designed primarily for guests with some riding experience. While we can customize rides for individuals and groups, our featured activity is the three-day ride toward Siena, which we call “The Palio of Castles.”

Imagine gliding through one of three private lakes tucked into our woods with a medieval fortress as a backdrop. You will gently paddle through the afternoon sunshine, discovering the beauty and peace of iconic landscape. We can provide a guide, or you can rent kayaks for a self-directed journey.

This precise area in the woods is particularly fertile and adapted to the natural growth of tuber melanosporum, which is one of the finest types of black truffles. Your search for black gold will be led by a hunter and his dog.
